| Resumo | This study analyzes convective rain cells on Rondonia state during the first Wet Season Atmospheric Mesoscale Campaign (WETAMC) of the Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA) and the validation of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), during the January to February, 1999 period. Rain images from the precipitation radar (PR) onboard of TRMM satellite were used for characterizing the convective cells. In the analyses of the vertical behavior of convective cells, it was selected only strong and intense cells in their mature stage to obtain zonal and meridional vertical rain profiles. A case study of a supercell storm occurred in northen Rondonia on the 25 of January was analyzed. The results show that in general rainfall rates decay rapidly with height, the highest values are observed around 3km of altitude. It stands out small areas which concentrates most of rainfall. Also, the relationship between the depth, organization and distribution of convective cells show that supercells storms have a significant number of shallow cells. |
